A glimpse of the life of Prabowo Subianto, (born 17 October 1951) is an Indonesian businessman, politician and former special forces soldier. In the Indonesian presidential election, 2009 he ran for the vice-presidency as part of Megawati Sukarnoputri's campaign for president. In November 2011, Prabowo announced his intention to run for president in the next Indonesian presidential election, 2014. Prabowo is the son of Soemitro Djojohadikoesoemo and former husband of Titiek Suharto, the late President Suharto's daughter.

Prabowo Subianto is this year's dark horse in the Indonesian parliamentary elections. A self-promoted quiet goat farmer, the candidate has a few skeletons in his closet from his less than quiet military past.

Subianto headed up the notorious Special Forces unit Kopassus, which was accused of atrocities. It earnt him a fierce reputation. 'His military stature made him one of the most powerful men.' But when he was suspected of plotting a coup he was kicked out of the military. Eleven years on and he's returned to the spotlight. With a stunning reinvention he's returned with a legion of supporters for his party, The Great Indonesian Movement. Despite the human rights activists, Subianto - who compares himself to Barack Obama - is now considered by millions to be credible for the country's top job. 'It's been an extraordinary reinvention.'
